A Brief History of Soroptimism

Soroptimist International was founded in Oakland, California in 1921 by Stuart Morrow
who was incidentally, the founder of Rotary International.
The organisation quickly spread across the United States, then to England and on to Europe.
The London Club was founded in 1924, Manchester Club in 1926, Liverpool Club in 1927
and closely followed by clubs in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
As the organisation grew it split into 4 Federations, which are:
Great Britain and Ireland (SIGBI)
Europe
The Americas
South West Pacific
There are now 125 countries in the International Organisation and over 90,000 members.
